What's Breakfast Without Eggs?
The American Egg Board funds and carries out programs that are designed to increase the market for eggs, egg products, and spent fowl products. Its mission revolves around promotion, research, and education. During 2002, the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association worked closely with AEB on the National Check-Off Program. The two associations also won an award from Electronic Color Editorial Services for a record-breaking May Is Egg Month publicity feature.

USPOULTRY and NCC Spread the Word About Chicken
In May 2006, the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association and the National Chicken Council hosted approximately 70 of the nation's top food journalists at a Food Media Seminar in Philadelphia, Pa. The goal of the program is to put the spotlight on chicken in fine dining.

USPOULTRY and NCC's popular Web site, eatchicken.com, has been redesigned to be more compact, easier to navigate, and more useful to consumers. USPOULTRY hosts the NCC Web site www.nationalchickencouncil.com. The site serves as a resource for journalists covering the poultry industry.

The National Chicken Cooking Contest, sponsored by USPOULTRY and NCC, is the nation's oldest continually running consumer cooking competition. The first prize is $100,000. Runner-up prizes totaling $18,000 also will be awarded. A finalist from each state and the District of Columbia receive an expense-paid trip to the competition. The 2005 event will be held May 13 in Charlotte, N.C. The entry deadline is Oct. 15, 2004. Go here for more information.

Each state finalist's recipe in the biannual event is included in The Chicken Cookbook, which is available for $2.95. Send a check or money order with your name and address to: Chicken Cookbook, Department NCC, Box 307, Coventry, CT 06238.

USPOULTRY and NTF Are Wild About Turkey
The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association and the National Turkey Federation co-sponsor foodservice marketing programs to build the awareness of turkey in the commercial foodservice market. The 2002 campaign built on the previous year's success, focusing on driving traffic to the eatturkey.com Web site. More than 353,000 visitors logged onto the site, up 23 percent from the previous year.

The federation also launched a pilot retail marketing program in 2002. The campaign, entitled "Give Turkey a Turn," was designed to overcome the number-one reason consumers don't eat turkey: they simply don't think of it as a year-round dinner entree. The campaign consisted of advertising, promotions, and public relations efforts in three cities: Charlotte, N.C.; Columbus, Ohio; and Sacramento, Calif.
